Pivot Point International Pledges to Raise Funds for City Of Hope Diabetes Research

Pivot Point Believes “Hope is in Style”

ppiEvanston, IL – Pivot Point International announces its pledge to raise funds for “Hope is in Style,” the year long, industry-wide effort benefiting diabetes research and treatment at the City of Hope, Duarte, CA.

Each year, City of Hope’s National Professional Salon Industry (NPSI) honors a beauty industry leader for his or her outstanding professional and philanthropic contributions with the Spirit of Life® Award. This year’s Honoree is Reuben Carranza, CEO of Wella, the Salon Professional Division of P&G, North America.

Carranza has chosen to direct funds raised during his Spirit of Life campaign toward City of Hope’s cutting-edge research in diabetes. Coming from a family ravaged by this chronic disease, Carranza has seen the impact diabetes had on his mother and his aunt, both hairdressers, as they struggled to continue to work behind the chair.

“We believe that through our students, schools and partners, we can make a difference in the fight against diabetes,” said Robert Passage, chairman and CEO of Pivot Point International, in making the announcement. “One in 12 Americans have diabetes and it’s rampant in the beauty industry. Imagine how much we can help our own industry if every beauty school student and school owner gave just one dollar between now and the National Diabetes Month in November; we can reach our goal of $100,000 easily,“ Passage added.

Giving Back is a Pivot Point Core Value

Giving back to the community has always been one of Pivot Point's core values. In 1988, Pivot Point Founder Leo Passage was the second person to be honored by City of Hope with its Spirit of Life Award. He remained active in raising awareness and funds for the organization throughout his life.

Pivot Point believes in City of Hope's mission to provide innovative care and life-saving treatments for countless thousands of patients. Diabetes, the focus of this year's campaign, affects millions including many salon professionals.

Diabetes affects circulation, making it difficult to stand for long periods of time, and can impair hand dexterity—all are important physical aspects of being an outstanding hair designer.

“We believe it is crucial for future and current salon professionals to learn about the causes and effects of diabetes and the importance of a healthy lifestyle in avoiding the disease,” adds Passage. “We will increase our educational efforts about the disease as well as raise funds throughout the country.”

Pivot Point is challenging schools, salons and students to get involved and raise funds through November 2013, which is National Diabetes Month, by giving just one dollar to the fight against diabetes, and by holding special events in their salons and spas. School and salon owners can register their businesses to participate and receive materials from Pivot Point by visiting the company’s Hope is in Style page.

Donations are also accepted directly via Pivot Point’s Crowd Rise or directly to City of Hope (please indicate you are part of Pivot Point Believes Hope is Style).
